What is the Weather like in Argentina?

September 2, 2015 by Patrick Leave a Comment

Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires

We are continuing the series, “Questions I am asked”. I am often asked, “What is the weather like in Argentina?”. In fact, I am asked this question almost weekly. While this does not really focus in on the spiritual position of Argentines, it is a question people frequently ask. The answer however, is not a concise one.

Iguazu Falls, Argentina

Iguazu Falls, Aregentina

Argentina is vast. There is a subtropical climate in the northeast of the country. There is no dry season there, which makes the area the most humid in the country. Over in the west, in Mendoza, the climate is very dry. While it is hot and humid in the north, the south is quite different.

Perito Moreno Glacier, Argentina

There are glaciers and penguins in the south of Argentina! Ushuaia, the southern most city in Argentina, does not get as cold as some might think, but still has a sub-polar climate.

Puente de la Mujer

Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina, is close to the same distance to the equator as Atlanta, GA (there is only about a 60 mile difference). There are four seasons in the capital, albeit spring and autumn can be volatile. The city almost never gets snow because it is on the River Plate. The summers are very humid and are usually in the 80’s F.

So the weather in Argentina is truly dependent on where you are in the country. Although the climate is different in various locales, the need is the same. Every city, town, village, and house needs the Gospel of Jesus!

Country of the Week: Albania

September 1, 2015 by Patrick Leave a Comment

AlbaniaGeneral: Albania is set on the eastern shore of the Adriatic Sea, with Montenegro and Serbia to the north, Macedonia to the east, and Greece to the south. A little larger than Maryland, Albania is composed of two major regions: a mountainous highland region (north, east, and south) making up 70% of the land area, and a western coastal lowland region that contains the most densely populated part of Albania.

Population: 3,020,000

Gospel Need: Largest religion is Islam

  • Islam – 62.4%
  • Christian – 30.4%
  • Evangelical (those who believe in salvation by faith in Jesus) – 0.5%
  • Other – 6.7%

Albania is in need of Gospel laborers. There are fewer long-term missionaries now than in the initial rush after the country opened; more committed workers are needed. For more information, click here.

September 2015 Missions Letter

March 24, 2016

The date above may just be another day for many, but for our family it is a very special day, a day we have been working toward since March 17, 2014! Lord willing, on March 24 we will be leaving for Argentina! This date was chosen after prayer and consideration of the remaining support we need. God is blessing, we have more to go, and we believe in these last months God will raise our needed support. Please pray for us that we will see this happen by March.

August was an incredible month. We were in 6 different states presenting our burden for Argentina. We had several churches partner with us this month in reaching Argentina! September has us in 6 different states as well. We have several mission conferences during this month. Our hope is that God will work in the hearts of His people to further the Gospel in our Generation. With each meeting we are drawing closer to the conclusion of our deputation.

Serving Together,

In Argentina

I read the caption a few weeks ago in August, “More than 11,000 people had been evacuated by Tuesday (August 11, 2015) from parts of Argentina’s largest province after heavy weekend rains caused rivers to rise quickly.” These floods that hit Argentina every so often are hard on the Argentines. Their lives are totally changed. One woman’s testimony was that this was the third time she has had to leave her home because of flooding. In tragic times like this, a Gospel-preaching church could be there for these communities in an effort to advance the Gospel. That would be great if there were churches like ours in their neighborhoods. For many Argentines, there is no Baptist church to help them. Pray with us for Gospel laborers.

Highlighted Bible Reading – Amos 4

August 31, 2015 by Patrick Leave a Comment

Bible Reading: Amos 4:6-12
Amos 4 gives us a detailed account of God’s “attempt” to bring Israel to repentance.
  • God brought a dearth of food (4:6)
  • God brought a drought (4:7-8)
  • God sent the “palmer worm” to devour Israel’s crops. (4:9)
  • God sent pestilence and death to Israel. (4:10)
  • God overthrew some of Israel. (4:11)
In all these things, Israel refused to turn to God. So what is left? Amos 4:12 tells us “Therefore thus will I do unto thee, O Israel: and because I will do this unto thee, prepare to meet thy God, O Israel.”
God did not bring these judgements on Israel to “punish” them but to cause them to repent. Their refusal to repent brings perhaps the most fearful thing that can be told to a people, “Prepare to meet they God.”  This is obviously not a good thing, but a judgement was coming that would break Israel.
The bottom line is that the pleasure of sin is not worth the cost.
