Patience – With Your Children

April 24, 2018 by Patrick Leave a Comment

I can remember being a boy and days where I really aggravated my parents. There was a look I would receive and I knew I had pushed them to the point where one more small “straw” and the “camel’s back would break”. My parents were always good to display grace in those times. I can remember those days now and as a parent I can relate. We all love our kids. We all know that they are the greatest kids in the world! But we also all know that our kids can sometimes be “difficult”, that is to say that they can, at times, push us over the edge. The truth is we all need to have patience as we raise our children! But how?

Galatians 5 tells us of the “fruit of the Spirit”. This “fruit” should “grow” in the lives of believers. But this “fruit” does not grow naturally, it is a work of God in us as we obey and follow Him! “22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. 24 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” Galatians 5:22-25. Really all of these fruits that make up the fruit of the Spirit can change the way we raise our children, but two words we really ought to consider are “longsuffering” and “temperance”. Longsuffering means “having or showing patience in spite of troubles, especially those caused by other people.” Temperance means “self restraint”. Both of these terms sound a lot like patience!

So how do we have patience with our children, especially in those difficult times? When we walk in the Spirit, we have the fruit of the Spirit, which means we will have patience!

Quick Update: Finding a House

April 20, 2018 by Patrick Leave a Comment

A big request of ours has been that we find a house to rent. The contract on the house we rented when we arrived in Argentina expires on April 30. The owner was kind enough to offer us more time, but we were really wanting to find a house to rent and move on. God is so good to us, He has led us to a house and we will be signing the rental agreement on April 27! We are thankful for this answer to prayer!

Last Sunday marked the 1 year anniversary from the day we started the church. We had 4 visitors on Sunday morning! We are thankful for what God is doing in the hearts of those who are attending Faith Baptist Church.

Patience: Living in a Foreign Country

April 10, 2018 by Patrick Leave a Comment

I love living here in Argentina. That is not to say that I love everything, but I do love it here. The people are warm and friendly. The food is delicious. We have four seasons here, and three of them are beautiful (I am not a huge fan of winter). With all the great things I love about this country, I do find the need for patience to live here, or anywhere else that is not the country you grew up in. Why? Because things are different, not bad, not wrong, not backwards, just different. But those differences can really be frustrating. You are accustomed to a specific way of life, a specific order, a specific way things are done, and when they are done in a completely different way it causes frustration. This build up of frustration is commonly known as “culture shock”. I have seen it in others and I have certainly experienced it myself. I have learned (and am learning) that patience is needed when living in a foreign country.
I want to make clear again that I love living here, even in the frustrating moments when it seems like something that should be relatively simple is incredibly difficult. That is where patience comes in. But this frustration has pushed me into trusting the Lord more and more. That is what patience does, it causes you to wait on the Lord. Patience can be an expression of confidence that God is going to bring His will to pass. What a shame to go through some type of frustration but not growing in patience and therefore not growing closer to Jesus! This is a unique opportunity we have as foreigners and I hope God continues to work in me as I grow in patience, trusting Jesus through it all! May we all grow in patience, trusting our God is in control.

April 2018 Missions Letter

From Easter to a Ladies Fellowship

In March we had a special service with a lunch. We called it Levi’s Banquet. It was a time where many were invited to enjoy a good meal but more than that, a time to meet Jesus.

This month will start off with Easter, which is on April 01, but actually started with our normal Thursday service on March 29, a special “good Friday” service (good Friday is celebrated more than Easter is), and culminating on Sunday. This month we will also have our first women’s fellowship (our men’s fellowship will be in May). This will be an opportunity for the ladies in our church to get together and spend time together and also be challenged with a special lesson for God’s Word. On top of all of this we must find a house to rent and move into the house before the end of the month!

Serving Together,

Patrick, Leslie, Lily, Piper, Ivy, and Isla Henry
