Argentina Chimichurri Recipe

September 16, 2015 by Patrick Leave a Comment

Argentine ChimichurriChimichurri is delicious! It is traditionally served with steak and is an important part of the Argentine parilla, but it goes well with chicken and fish too. Chimichurri also works well as a marinade, and is delicious on vegetables or simply as a dip for pieces of bread.

This is a smaller recipe, yielding about 1 cup or so. There are also different variations. It is very simple to make.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh flat leaf parsley, firmly packed
  • 1/4 cup fresh oregano leaves (optional) or 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro (optional)
  • 3-6 cloves of garlic (to taste)
  • 2 tablespoons chopped red onion
  • 1/2-3/4 cup olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar (or to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice (or to taste)
  • Kosher salt and red pepper flakes to taste

Preparation

  1. Pulse the garlic and onion in the food processor and pulse just until until finely chopped.
  2. Add the parsley, oregano, and cilantro (if using) and pulse briefly, just until the herbs are finely chopped.
  3. Transfer the mixture to a separate bowl. Add the olive oil, lime juice, and vinegar, and stir. (Adding the liquids outside of the blender gives the chimichurri the correct texture. You don’t want the herbs to be completely puréed, just finely chopped).
  4. Season with salt and red pepper flakes to taste.
  5. Store in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

Country of the Week: Algeria

September 15, 2015 by Patrick Leave a Comment

Algeria on the Globe.

General: Algeria is bordered on the west by Morocco and Western Sahara and on the east by Tunisia and Libya. The Mediterranean Sea is to the north, and to the south are Mauritania, Mali, and Niger. It is nearly four times the size of Texas and the largest country on the continent of Africa. The Saharan region, which is 85% of the country, is almost completely uninhabited. Algiers is the capital and largest city with 2,916,000 (est. in 2011).

Population: 40,633,000

Gospel Need: Largest religion is Islam

  • Islam – 97.2%
  • Evangelical (those who believe in salvation by faith in Jesus) – 0.2%
  • Other – 2.5%

The Algerians in Algeria are less accessible to reach with the Gospel than the 4 million Algerians who reside in Europe. The need is Gospel preaching churches to be planted in the capital and around the country!

Highlighted Bible Reading: Matthew 6:1-18

September 14, 2015 by Patrick Leave a Comment

Bible Reading: Matthew 6:1-18
So much instruction! The reoccurring phrase for a few things is “in secret”. Jesus taught against doing things for “outward show”, but to be done genuinely out of a heart of love for God! Here are the details…
  • Giving (6:1-4). Giving is not to be done so that all can see how generous you are, but to be done secretly. We are really giving to God!
  • Praying (6:5-15). Praying is not to be done to show how spiritual you are out in public, but praying is to be done to God in private, earnestly seeking Him. This doesn’t mean that we should not pray publicly, but that it is to be done our of a sincere heart!
  • Fasting (6:16-18). Fasting is to be done for God, not for men and women to notice how spiritual you are, how you are “suffering for Jesus”. Fasting is to be done in secret, where only God knows and sees it.
The life Jesus has called us to a public life in proclaiming Jesus and living for Him but also a private life in communion with Him!

Quick Update: The Beginning of a Journey

September 11, 2015 by Patrick Leave a Comment

We are in a scheduled meeting every Sunday morning, Sunday night, and Wednesday night. Some times we are closer to home, other times we are further away. We begin a 3 week journey away from home. We will be in several states, including New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. We are excited to share our hearts in each and every church.

This Sunday we will begin a Mission Conference in New Jersey. I ask that you pray specifically for three things…

  • For our safety as we travel.
  • That God will use us to encourage and challenge each believer in every church!
  • That God will raise our support.

Thank you for praying for us. God bless you.

Serving Together,

Patrick, Leslie, Lily, Piper, & Ivy Henry
