May 2015 Missions Letter

Blessings and Tragedy

It is amazing to me how we can get so caught up in our own lives that we forget the struggle and trials of others around us.  God has increased our support to just over 50% this month!  We have had churches partner with us this month in world evangelism.  Each week seems to get more exciting!  Leslie and I both have been amazed at how God has answered our prayers this month.  In the midst of all of this blessing, we showed up at a church that we scheduled some months ago.  We were there on Sunday night.  The Friday before, the Assistant Pastor and his 20 month old daughter were in an accident.  She was hurt badly, and at our arrival, she was at the hospital in a very uncertain condition.  The church was heartbroken.  I presented and preached and tried to be an encouragement to a hurting body of believers.  We prayed together for about an hour after the service.  Sadly, little Faith Lawrence passed away a few days later.  We are always grateful to share in the blessings, but we are also to be thankful to share in the tragedies too!  God can use us in both!

Who are the Mapuche?

Their name means Che = People – Mapu = of the land.  These “people of the land” are an indigenous group in Argentina and Chile.  I actually spent a few days with a specific group of Mapuche back in 2012.  The Mapuche’s second language is Spanish (their first language is called “Mapudungdun”). I was in contact with a missionary this month who is working with the Mapuche in the Andes Mountains in Argentina.  He is laboring to see this little-known people come to faith in Jesus.  This reminds me
of how vast Argentina really is.  There are cities, towns, and villages full of people that
need the Gospel.  We need laborers proclaiming the Gospel and training men in every city.

April 2015 Missions Letter

Marching Forward in March.

I am amazed at how God is blessing more and more each month! We have partnered with four churches this month and several more that told us they would be taking us on for financial support in the near future, bringing us closer to leaving for the mission field. We were in 14 scheduled meetings in March sharing what God is doing in our hearts. We pray for each meeting, that God would be magnified, people would be encouraged and challenged, and that God would increase our support. We are working hard and believing God for the fruit of our labor. Here are some highlights of this month…

Our calendar is almost completely full for the year.

We are seeing God work in a young man we met on deputation. He feels God is calling him to world evangelism as a missionary.  Pray for him.

Safety as we travel day in and day out.

Serving Together,

Patrick, Leslie, Lily, Piper, and Ivy Henry

In La Plata, Argentina…

Last July, the building of Lighthouse Baptist Church was destroyed in a fire. The church has seen hard days since but have stayed faithful.  They have met outside on the concrete pad in which the church was built They have now started the second phase of reconstructing the church building. The believers there have rallied and are seeing God bless. There is a great opportunity to help this church.  They have raised funds and could use help.  If you would like to help this church, please contact me.  Please pray that this church will continue to be faithful and continue to see God move as they rebuild what was destroyed! God is at work in Argentina!

March 2015 Missions Letter

One Year!

We have now been on deputation for one year as church-planting missionaries to Argentina! In this year, we have seen God do incredible things! I don’t know how to put it onto paper! We have driven thousands of miles and been in many churches. We have met brothers and sisters in Christ who are making a difference for Jesus. We have been inspired, encouraged, and challenged. God has kept us safe in all of this. We have partnered with 34 churches with many others who have said they will be partnering with us in the coming months! We are now at 35% of our needed funds! Our goal is to leave between March and June of 2016. We are right on target for that goal. Please continue to pray that God will build our support.

This month, we have 12 scheduled meetings where we will share what God is doing in our lives and the great need in Argentina. We will be in four different states. This year of deputation has been a great blessing to us!

Meanwhile in Argentina

The Córdoba province is home to over 3.3 million people, and is the location of the city Córdoba, the second largest city of Argentina. In February, heavy rains caused the Ceballos River to overflow and flood the small towns in surrounding areas. People were trapped in their cars and homes. Electricity was shut off for days to prevent electrocution. Sadly, seven people died due to the floods. Large cities are in desperate need of the Gospel, but small towns and villages are also in great need! A missionary in Buenos Aires told me that there are over 100 cities with 50,000 people in them that do not have a Gospel witness in them! Argentina needs laborers!

Blessings

What a great month! We started January out in Pigeon Forge, TN where we held our annual Our Generation Summit! We had over 300 people in attendance with several who surrendered their lives to the cause of world evangelism!  We have been in 11 states this month! God has blessed us with safety and great advances toward leaving for the mission field. We have had three churches partner with us this month. I have been challenged by good men of God that are serving Him around this country! We are praying that God will continue to raise our support.

February is another completely full month of scheduled meetings in nine different states! Please continue praying for our safety, that God uses us to bless and challenge every church we are in, and that God will continue to build our support. Our desire is to be in Argentina, until then we will continue to do all we can to get there!

What’s Going On In Argentina?

I posted an article on our blog (patrickjhenry.net) a few weeks ago about a specific city in Argentina.  I have posted about a few cities in Argentina in the past. For this post, I highlighted Rosario. Rosario is the third largest city in Argentina with a population growing toward 1.4 million people! It is located on the Paraná River. I knew the need was great. I had a missionary from Buenos Aires write me and tell me that of the almost 1.4 million people, that he knew of only two baptist churches!  The field is white to harvest, but the laborers really are few.  Please pray for Rosario, that God would raise up men to reach that needy city and the world!
